Step 1: Understand the Assessment Process
To contest your property taxes, you must first understand how your property is assessed. In Larimer County, property values are reassessed every two years by the Larimer County Assessor’s Office. The assessment is based on a variety of factors, including the size and condition of your property, its location, and recent sales of comparable properties in your area.

Step 2: Call your Agent to Gather Evidence
To contest your property taxes, you need to gather evidence to support your case. This evidence can include recent appraisals, photos of your property, and information on recent sales of comparable properties in your area. You should also review your property tax bill and make sure that all of the information is accurate, including the size of your property and any improvements or renovations that you have made.

If they do not agree with your case, you still have the option to appeal their decision to the Larimer County Board of Equalization.

Step 5: If you disagree with the County Reassessment – Schedule and Attend a Hearing
Once you have filed your protest, the Larimer County Assessor’s Office will schedule a hearing to review your case. You will be notified of the hearing date and time, and you will have the opportunity to present your evidence and argue your case. It is recommended that you bring a copy of your property tax bill and all of the evidence that you have gathered to the hearing.
